It was known that Teaira McCowan would be the star of the 2018-2019 Mississippi State basketball team. Now, the SEC media has awarded McCowan the honors of being the preseason SEC player of the year.

As the Mississippi State women’s basketball program has become a powerhouse, Teaira McCowan has grown to become one of the best players in the country. Last season, McCowan was a key reason for the Bulldogs’ success and her stellar play helped MSU win 37 games in 2017-2018.

After an award worthy season last year, McCowan has earned some preseason notoriety this year, including from media members covering the Southeastern Conference. Prior to this upcoming season starting, McCowan has been named the SEC preseason player of the year at SEC Media Days.

Last year, McCowan played over 30 minutes a game and started every single game of the season. McCowan made her name known across the country due to her ability to play at an incredibly high level, putting her name in MSU’s record book and also the SEC’s and the NCAA’s record books as well.

McCowan averaged 18.2 points and 13.9 rebounds per game last season, making over 60 percent of her shots, and blocking 81 of her opponents’ shots. She improved the entirety of her game from her sophomore year to her junior year and is looking to continue dominating her foes in her senior season.

The senior center is one of the best players in the country. And that’s why she’s the SEC preseason player of the year.

And of course, when South Carolina fans come out of nowhere to criticize that, Vic Schaefer won’t tolerate his players being trash talked by trolls.

The Mississippi State basketball team should be great this year. Yes, the Bulldogs are losing a lot from last season, but there’s still plenty to be excited about with this season.
