Watch Nick Fitzgerald score sealing Auburn upset for Mississippi State football
By Ethan Lee
Nick Fitzgerald put the Auburn Tigers away with this touchdown late in the game on Saturday, getting the Bulldogs a win over the No. 8 team in the country at the time.
It’s not a secret that the Mississippi State football team was carried in large part by the rushing attack that the Bulldogs fielded against Auburn. The Bulldogs defense did a solid job of limiting what Auburn could do and Bob Shoop’s group should be credited for that, but Nick Fitzgerald was the main spark for the Mississippi State football team against the Tigers.
Against Auburn, Fitzgerald was able to end the Bulldogs’ touchdown drought that dated back to the second quarter against Kentucky. He was actually the only player in the entire game between the two teams who had any touchdowns on Saturday.
Fitzgerald’s rushing touchdown at the end of the first half pushed MSU ahead and gave the Bulldogs’ momentum against a tough Auburn defense. And in the second half, it was this touchdown that put the Tigers away.
The official Mississippi State football twitter account, @HailStateFB, shared the video. Check it out right here:
Mississippi State needed every single ounce of effort that Fitzgerald put out on the field against Auburn. The Bulldogs demolished Auburn thanks to the offensive line creating space for Fitzgerald and Kylin Hill to run through the Tigers defense.
The Mississippi State Bulldogs might have a pretty good shot at redeeming the rest of the season if they can continue to play this way. Joe Moorhead did a commendable job in tailoring his offense to this talent. It would’ve been great if he had done it a couple of weeks sooner than he did, but he finally did it. And because he did, the Bulldogs just took down a top 10 team this past weekend. MSU needs to carry that momentum forward after this bye week.
