Mississippi State football’s Nick Fitzgerald earned SEC player of the week honors after his incredible performance running the ball against the Auburn Tigers.
There are only a few quarterbacks that are truly as good as Mississippi State football’s Nick Fitzgerald when it comes to running the ball. He’s a great runner that provides explosive plays thanks to the fact that he’s bigger than just about everyone attempting to tackle him and the fact that he’s fully capable of making plenty of quick movements.
After the Bulldogs’ offensive line paved a way and provided Fitzgerald with plenty of breathing room on Saturday, he was able to get down the field, score a couple of touchdowns, and torch Auburn’s fantastic rushing defense in the process.
In the midst of all of that, Fitzgerald broke an old SEC record set by Tim Tebow. Fitzgerald is now the leader when it comes to quarterbacks running the ball. He has 2,999 rushing yards to his name through the entirety of his career and he’s got at least six more games to add to that total.
All of that has led to the Southeastern Conference naming Fitzgerald the SEC’s offensive player of the week.
As it turns out, this is something that our very own Justin Strawn predicted would happen back on Saturday.
Justin turned out to be right on both of those predictions as Montez Sweat earned SEC honors this week as well.
The Mississippi State football team needed that win against the Auburn Tigers. It helped redeem Joe Moorhead a bit and it helped salvage this season. All is not lost for the Bulldogs. There’s still plenty of opportunities to get this season all the way back on track. A lot of that has to do with how Nick Fitzgerald played this past Saturday.
