Mississippi State football’s Nick Fitzgerald claimed the SEC record for career rushing yards from a quarterback against the No. 8 Auburn Tigers on Saturday.
The Mississippi State football team has relied upon Nick Fitzgerald’s ability to run the ball since he took over as the starting quarterback of the Bulldogs. Fitzgerald is a tall, mobile quarterback that has no issues running into the teeth of opposing defenses. He’s done it in just about every game that he’s played in since the fall of 2016.
And though there are some certain aspects of Fitzgerald’s game that one could criticize and want improvement from, there’s no one out there that should doubt his toughness and how spectacular he is when it comes to running the ball.
Because of that, the Bulldogs have won several games, including this one against No. 8 Auburn. Fitzgerald has also made his mark on the Mississippi State football record book.
In addition to that, Fitzgerald has also pushed his name to the top of the Southeastern Conference’s record book. Fitzgerald has officially claimed one of Tim Tebow’s records. As of now, Fitzgerald is officially the SEC’s leader in quarterback rushing yards through an entire career.
And this year isn’t done yet.
Through the rest of the 2018 season, Fitzgerald will have plenty more opportunities to gain more rushing yards, produce more rushing touchdowns, and carry the Mississippi State football team to more wins.
That seems significantly more likely now that Joe Moorhead has adjusted his offense to feature the best part of Fitzgerald’s skill set. The Bulldogs will need to continue to use Fitzgerald’s running ability as that gives Mississippi State the best chance at winning each and every week.
As long as the Bulldogs keep winning, Fitzgerald can hold up to the physical toll that running the SEC takes, and the offense doesn’t take a step back, there’s absolutely no need to switch quarterbacks. All of those conditions seem to be more than theoretically possible.
