Mississippi State football’s Montez Sweat earned SEC defensive lineman of the week honors after he continuously disrupted the Auburn Tigers offense on Saturday.
The Mississippi State football team has to be incredibly thankful that Montez Sweat joined the Bulldogs. Joe Moorhead has to be incredibly thankful that Sweat decided to stay with the Bulldogs for another season. Sweat could have gone elsewhere and he also could have decided to leave the Bulldogs after last year.
And here Sweat is, leading the Bulldogs, and the SEC, in disrupting his opponents and causing pressure on their quarterbacks.
Against the Auburn Tigers, Sweat and the Mississippi State football team did a great job of breaking up Auburn’s struggling offensive line. Sweat in particular made it a point to get after Auburn’s Jarrett Stidham and put him on the ground as often as possible.
Sweat only had three tackles against the Auburn Tigers on Saturday. However, all three of those tackles ended up being tackles for loss. Specifically, all three of those tackles for loss were all sacks.
That’s rather impressive.
Due to those three sacks of Auburn’s quarterback, the Southeastern Conference has recognized Montez Sweat as the SEC’s defensive lineman of the week.
Coming into Saturday’s game, the Auburn Tigers lowest scoring total came against LSU when they scored 21 points. Sweat helped lead the effort to keep the Tigers out of the end zone entirely, holding Auburn to three field goals.
The Bulldogs have one of the best defenses in the country and it is led by Sweat’s effort and ability to get after quarterbacks. He had a huge game on Saturday and is in the midst of a great 2018 season so far.
