It’s game day: Mississippi State football vs Auburn
By Ethan Lee
The sixth game of the 2018 Mississippi State football season is here and the Bulldogs absolutely need to beat the Auburn Tigers this evening.
It’s officially Mississippi State football game day, but things aren’t as bright and exciting as we once hoped that they would be. The Bulldogs currently have a couple of losses and we just entered into October. Mississippi State’s offense wasn’t supposed to sputter in September, but it did. And it cost the Bulldogs against Kentucky and Florida.
Next week, the Mississippi State football team has a bye week. It’s much needed for MSU at this point. It’ll be a great chance for the Bulldogs to get some rest, catch their breath, and then gear up for the remainder of the season. It might even provide an opportunity for Joe Moorhead to get his team more acclimated to his offensive schemes.
But this week, the Bulldogs get to play No. 8 Auburn.
The Tigers had a rather lackluster September of their own as well. Things started out great for Auburn after it beat Washington in Atlanta, but then a few weeks later, the Tigers lost to LSU on a last second field goal.
While LSU is better than many, including myself, expected, that loss was still one that Auburn fans weren’t happy about. This was supposed to be a year in which Auburn challenged Alabama and Georgia for the SEC. Losing to LSU might possibly derail those hopes a bit.
Mississippi State fans are certainly familiar with that feeling right now. This was supposed to be a year in which the Bulldogs could challenge for the SEC West. Instead, the Mississippi State football team has committed far too many errors in the past couple of weeks and blundered its way into two losses in games it very well could have easily won. All the Bulldogs needed was a bit more offense, but Moorhead’s system failed MSU the past two weeks.
And now, we’re here, with the Auburn Tigers and the Mississippi State Bulldogs. Both teams are trying to find life. Both teams are trying to find an offense. Both teams have already fallen short of their expectations, though Auburn has an easier path to redemption this season. We’re halfway into the 2018 Mississippi State football season and it already feels as if it is over.
