Mississippi State football: The Bulldogs should consider switching quarterbacks
By Ethan Lee
Should the Bulldogs bring Jalen Mayden out of his redshirt year?
There’s nothing out there to indicate that freshman Jalen Mayden would bring a notable increase in offensive production with him right now if he played. He’s simply not a viable option right now to improve what the Bulldogs are doing on the offensive side of the ball.
Yes, Mayden is an incredibly talented quarterback. Yes, he could be a really good asset for the Mississippi State football team in the future.
Despite all of that, there’s a couple of good reasons as to why Mississippi State is redshirting him right now. At the moment, Mayden is an unknown to many MSU fans. He’s in his first semester on campus and is still getting acclimated to everything. It would be foolish for Joe Moorhead to burn Mayden’s opportunity at redshirting to try and win more games unless Mayden was truly the best option that the Bulldogs have right now.
And if he was better than the other quarterbacks in the room in this moment, Mayden likely would have already made it out on to the field.
