Does Keytaon Thompson give the Mississippi State football team a better shot at winning right now?

The Mississippi State football team is struggling on offense. When these things tend to happen, folks immediately jump at the possibility of going straight to the backup quarterback to solve all of the issues on offense. That means that in the past two weeks, Keytaon Thompson’s name has been said more than just a few times amongst Mississippi State fans.

Thompson is the most viable alternative for Joe Moorhead to turn to right now if he wants to make a change at quarterback. He’s got playing experience and has made two starts so far in his young career. On top of that, Thompson got plenty of practice experience this past spring as Nick Fitzgerald was healing up.

There’s a strong possibility that Thompson may actually be more familiar with Moorhead’s offense than Nick Fitzgerald right now.

There are some concerns about Thompson that should be discussed. He’s still a young quarterback and, well, he’s only started a couple of games so far. In those games, he hasn’t exactly proven himself to be a better passer than Fitzgerald. So far in his career, Thompson has completed 47 of 100 passes for 785 yards, 7 touchdowns, and 3 interceptions.

Those aren’t quite the numbers that someone should hope for from their starting quarterback.
