The Mississippi State football team will be honoring Alex Wilcox this weekend with some additions to their uniforms
This weekend, things in Starkville are about more than just a Mississippi State football game.
This weekend, the entirety of Mississippi State University will be honoring the legacy of a Mississippi State softball icon, Alex Wilcox. Wilcox isn’t an icon because of her performance on the softball field. Rather, it’s the fight that she endured and dealt with off of the field that made her into something of a MSU legend.
Alex Wilcox, throughout her freshman year as as Mississippi State softball player, battled ovarian cancer. She received support from several different sources, including Central Arkansas, other Southeastern Conference softball teams, and a professional Chinese softball team.
Now, she’s getting honored by the entire Mississippi State community. Her number is being retired this weekend during the halftime of the MSU football game against Louisiana-Lafayette. In addition to that, the Bulldogs will be wearing some special additions to their uniforms to pay respect to Wilcox’s legacy and memory.
It looks like MSU will be adding some special helmet decals and wearing teal cleats in Alex Wilcox’s honor. The official Mississippi State football twitter account tweeted out some pictures of the helmets with the decals.

They also made a special video highlighting the process of putting the decals on the helmets and explaining why they’re doing it right here:
On Sunday, after the football festivities have calmed down and things in Starkville start to return to normal, the Mississippi State softball team will be having a memorial service for Wilcox. It is open to the public.
