The Mississippi State football team will be heavy favorites as they play their third non-conference opponent of the 2018 season.

The Mississippi State football team completely overwhelmed their first two opponents of the 2018 season. The Bulldogs won their first game of the season against FCS opponent Stephen F. Austin 63-6. They followed that performance with a 31-10 beatdown of Big 12 opponent Kansas State on the road.

The Bulldogs also covered the point spread in both of those games. The Mississippi State football team was a 48 point favorite in the season opener against Stephen F. Austin, and they won by 57 points. This past Saturday, the Bulldogs took the field as a 9.5 point favorite after opening up the week as a 6 point favorite. They went on to win by 21, and in doing so, covered the point spread for the second consecutive week.

According to oddsmaker Oddshark.com, the Mississippi State football team will enter game number three of the 2018 season as a heavy favorite against the Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin’ Cajuns. The Mississippi State football team opened at Oddshark.com as a 30.5 point favorite.

That’s a pretty big number the Bulldogs will have to cover if they want to keep not only their straight up record spotless, but also their against the spread record spotless. But it wouldn’t be surprising if they were to do it.

The Ragin’ Cajuns have only played one game so far in 2018. They opened the season Labor Day Weekend with a nice win over FCS opponent Grambling State 49-17. But Louisiana-Lafayette is in a rebuilding phase.

The reason the Mississippi State football team was able to re-hire Mark Hudspeth this past offseason was because he was released from his responsibilities as the Ragin’ Cajuns head coach. So if the Bulldogs were to put up a big number this Saturday in Starkville, it would not be too terribly surprising.
