How much has Kansas State prepared for the Mississippi State football team?

Ultimately and more importantly, is the Mississippi State football team fully ready for a trip to Manhattan, Kansas?

The first game of the 2018 Mississippi State football season went incredibly well. The Bulldogs beat the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks, a team from the Football Championship Subdivision, by 57 points.

That’s pretty good.

The first game of the 2018 Kansas State football season did not go so well. The Wildcats struggled against the South Dakota Coyotes, another team from the Football Championship Subdivision, and only won by a total of 3 points late in the game.

That’s not so good.

It wouldn’t be much of a surprise for a fan (or writer or blogger or journalist or whomever) to say that they didn’t think that the Kansas State football team wasn’t all that prepared in their first game. That’s an easy thing to say. Well, according to K-State’s head coach Bill Snyder, the Wildcats may not have been as prepared as they should have been.

GoPowercats.com’s Ryan Wallace tweeted on Saturday after their game:

So, what’s going on here?

There’s a few different possibilities:

  1. That horrible first game happened simply because the Wildcats were overlooking an eager opponent in week one in order to be fully prepared for a much more talented foe in week two as suggested in the tweet above.
  2. Bill Snyder’s team intentionally looked horrific but still came away with the win so that they could sandbag the Bulldogs and sneak up on them as an unexpected trap while still not having their record tarnished by a loss.
  3. Snyder recognized that his team wasn’t adequately prepared in week one and will subsequently be more prepared in week two.
  4. Kansas State wanted to show solidarity with Kansas as the Jayhawks ultimately lost to an FCS team

Okay, so No. 4 there probably isn’t it, but most of these possibilities don’t seem all that realistic. Right? We can probably eliminate No. 2 as well, leaving us with the 1st and 3rd options here, but I don’t know the full context of the quote.

This is an odd quote to come out of a college football head coach’s press conference. College football coaches often say odd things in press conferences and this is one that is certainly hard to accurately interpret.

Ultimately, as long as the Mississippi State football team is fully prepared to go on the road and face the Wildcats, I don’t really care how prepared the Wildcats are for this game. I just want the Bulldogs to go in and win.
