The Mississippi State football team’s first game of the 2018 season resulted in a huge win
Joe Moorhead’s first game as the head coach of the Mississippi State football team was a brilliant one. The Bulldogs came out and dominated Stephen F. Austin all the way through from start to finish and in almost every aspect of the game.
It started pretty much as soon as the game started. As soon as Mississippi State’s offense got hold of the ball, it found a quick way to score thanks to an explosive play. On the very first pass of the game from Keytaon Thompson to Kylin Hill, MSU jumped out to a 7-0 lead when Hill took the short pass up field for a 53 yard score.
A few minutes later in the 1st quarter, Thompson would go and find the end zone himself, rushing in for a 9 yard touchdown run, pushing State’s lead over Stephen F. Austin out to 14-0. To close out a brilliant 1st quarter, Thompson would then throw over the Lumberjacks’ defense to Osirus Mitchell who took the ball 84 yards for the touchdown giving MSU a 21-0 lead.
SFA made a field goal to start the 2nd quarter, but touchdown passes from Thompson to Aeris Williams and Dontea Jones extended the Bulldogs’ lead out to 35-3 by the time the first half came to an end.
It didn’t get any closer from there.
As it rained on and off in Starkville, the Bulldogs continued to score. Mississippi State tacked on a couple more touchdowns in the 3rd quarter as Stephen F. Austin put up another field goal. Going into the 4th, MSU held a 49-6 lead and there was no thinking that the Lumberjacks could come back from that.
The Mississippi State football team added another couple of touchdowns in the final frame and called it a game at 63-6.
