The Mississippi State football team will head to Kansas State this weekend as the betting favorite when the two teams meet.

The Mississippi State football season got off to a nice start this past Saturday when they romped to a 63-6 win over the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks. Though the offense was inconsistent at times, it showed the dynamic capabilities we were promised throughout the offseason in the Joe Moorhead offense.

The Kansas State Wildcats also played an FCS opponent this past Saturday. They weren’t able to walk away from their victory as confident as the Mississippi State football team did though.

Kansas State needed a fourth quarter rally to beat the University of South Dakota 27-24. So how much of that is going to play into the point spread announced by game handicappers?

According to Oddshark.com, the Mississippi State football team is opening the week as a six point favorite. This line though could be very different though depending on where you go to for your betting odds.

This line actually surprised me a little bit. I thought after Kansas State struggled so mightily against their FCS opponent, the Bulldogs would come in as a bigger favorite than they are. But it is just the opening line, and it would not surprise me to see if a lot of early movement makes Mississippi State a bigger favorite as the week progresses.

One thing likely factoring the line right now would be odds makers don’t know how to gauge what Nick Fitzgerald will do coming off his one game suspension. Keytaon Thompson played well, but his inaccuracies in the passing game probably did not put any pressure on Nick Fitzgerald to lose his starting job as the Mississippi State football quarterback.

If you’re like me and think the Bulldogs are going to win by at least two scores, now might be the time to jump on that line if you like to gamble on the outcome of Mississippi State football games. If a significant number of people do the same thing, the line could creep up in a hurry.
