Mississippi State Football Versus Stephen F. Austin: How to Watch and What to Watch For
The Mississippi State football team kicks off their 2018 season today, and here is how you can watch and the things to be on the lookout for during the game.
You made it Mississippi State football fans! The 2018 season kicks off today! The Mississippi State Bulldogs will take on the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks. Here is how you can watch today’s game.
- Game Time: 6:30 p.m.
- Television: ESPNU
- Streaming: Watch ESPN app and FUBO TV
- Radio: Check local listings or use the Mississippi State Radio Network on iTunes
So that is how you can watch or listen to the game. But what specifically should you be looking for while viewing? A game against an FCS opponent with an interim coach shouldn’t provide much of a challenge for a loaded Mississippi State Football team, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t some things we can take away from this game. Here is what I will be looking for tonight during the broadcast.
Which Running Back Stands Out?
When the Mississippi State football depth chart was released, I found it interesting the starting running back was listed as Kylin Hill OR Aeris Williams. I personally have not thought Kylin Hill was going to be able to overtake a seasoned veteran like Aeris Williams, but maybe this is a sign that Hill’s God-given abilities are just too much to sit behind someone.
Will the Receivers Show Signs of Life?
The Bulldogs desperately need someone to step up at receiver. If one or two receivers have good games against Stephen F. Austin, it might not mean much. The Lumberjacks are a bad football team. However, if there isn’t a single receiver that plays well against a bad team, that could tell us a whole lot.
How much will the Defense Dominate?
The Defense is supposed to dominate this season. They should do so in this game, but can they outdo last year’s performance against an FCS opponent when they gave up just 33 yards of total offense?
Will Keytaon Thompson Play well Enough to Start a QB Controversy?
We all know by now Nick Fitzgerald is suspended for the season opener. This means Keytaon Thompson gets the start. Joe Moorhead has said this is just a one game suspension and Nick Fitzgerald is the starter when the Mississippi State football team travels to Manhattan, KS to take on Kansas State. With it being an FCS opponent, it would take a virtually flawless performance by Thompson to truly have an impact. But what if Thompson does just that? It could make week 2 interesting.
So that’s how you can watch the Mississippi State football team and some storylines. The 2018 season is here! Let’s sit back and enjoy it!
