Joe Moorhead and the Mississippi State football program awarded a scholarship to walk-on senior defensive back Stephen Adegoke
Stephen Adegoke earned his way to a scholarship. The walk-on senior safety hasn’t made many tackles throughout his career for the Mississippi State football team so far, but he’ll be able to close out his time in Starkville as a scholarship football player.
Earlier this week, Joe Moorhead and the Mississippi State football coaching staff awarded Adegoke with a scholarship. There weren’t any frills to this or any spectacular video shots in this process as we’ve seen in years past, but the end result is still the same.
A hardworking, walk-on football player has earned himself a scholarship.
Adegoke came to Starkville, Mississippi from San Diego Mesa College. The 6-0 and 210 pound safety wasn’t a huge name during his recruiting cycle. He didn’t seem to draw a ton of interest through the recruiting process. However, the Snellville, Georgia native was able to enroll with the Mississippi State Bulldogs and continue his college football career.
Now, he’s able to do so with a scholarship.
Moorhead also says he’s never been the type of coach to drop a hot air balloon or do something cute or crazy to announce a player is on scholarship. He simply called Adegoke into his office.

I think a certain other school in Mississippi did it another way yesterday.
It’s always a huge deal whenever a walk-on earns a scholarship. The work that these players put into playing for the Mississippi State football team is incredibly difficult stuff. It’s arduous work that takes a physical toll on the players.
For a player to be rewarded for all of that hard work and persistence is a very cool thing. Congrats, Stephen Adegoke. Here’s to hoping that your senior year is an incredible one. Good luck to you and to the Bulldogs.
