Stan Black was reportedly helping others in an accident on an interstate when the former Mississippi State football player was apparently struck by another car yesterday

According to a couple of reports, Stan Black was attempting to help others when he passed away. On I-55 in Canton, Mississippi, he was reportedly in the middle of trying to assist those who were in an existing accident on the road.

Unfortunately, things turned south as he tried to help others on the road and Stan Black lost his life at the age of 62.

During his time in Starkville with the Mississippi State football team, Stan Black was a phenomenal football player. He played during the 1970’s and was a key part of the success that came during those years.

According to Mississippi State’s press release, Black had nearly 200 tackles throughout his Mississippi State football career along with four interceptions. He played several different roles and positions over the years for MSU and found his way into the National Football League by the time his career with the Maroon and White was wrapped up.

He was drafted by the San Francisco 49’ers in 1977 and was with the team for a short while before moving on from football.

As Sid Salter, Steve Robertson, and the mayor of Canton, Mississippi have all attested to, Stan Black was as great of a person off the field as he was a player on it.

From everyone here at Maroon and White Nation, we are definitely thinking of and praying for Stan Black’s family, friends, loved ones, and former teammates.
