Mississippi State Football Ranked In 2018 Preseason AP Poll
By Ethan Lee
The 2018 Mississippi State football team is ranked as the 18th best team in the country by the Preseason AP Poll
Joe Moorhead and his Mississippi State football team are getting some decent respect heading into the 2018 college football season. Earlier this offseason, the coaches poll was released and had the Mississippi State Bulldogs as their 18th ranked team going into the 2018 season.
Now, the AP Poll has done the same.
According to the preseason AP Poll, Mississippi State is the 18th best team in the country. This comes after MSU finished at No. 19 last season thanks to a 9 win season capped off with a great bowl win over Louisville for the Bulldogs.
Obviously, this poll is going to bring out a solid bit of discussion about where teams should be ranked. Due to the format of the AP poll and how prominent it is historically, there’s going to be a good amount of banter back and forth on how high teams should be.
The SEC Network’s Peter Burns is a great example of that.
The full poll is as follows:
- Alabama
- Clemson
- Georgia
- Wisconsin
- Ohio State
- Washington
- Oklahoma
- Miami
- Auburn
- Penn State
- Michigan State
- Notre Dame
- Stanford
- Michigan
- USC
- TCU
- West Virginia
- Mississippi State
- Florida State
- Virginia Tech
- UCF
- Boise State
- Texas
- Oregon
- LSU
It’s certainly possible that the Mississippi State football team should be ranked higher in preseason polls. I would argue that the Bulldogs should come in around No. 16 going into this year. However, this is still a solid spot for MSU to be based off of how last year went. Winning will definitely elevate the Bulldogs in this poll as the season goes on.
