The 2018 Mississippi State football season could be one fans will remember for years to come. Who will need to step up to make that happen?

As we approach the 2018 Mississippi State football season, we’ll be looking at the players who will need to step up in a big way for the Bulldogs to turn the season into the one the fans are hoping for. This article will focus on one of the players who stepped up in a big way last season and will need to do so again this season, Greg Eiland.

We all know the offensive line is probably the most underappreciated group of players on the field. The only time we ever mention the offensive line is when they mess up and do something to cost the team. When they’re doing their job by creating holes for the running backs and giving the quarterback plenty of time to throw, it’s the other players who get the glory.

But that doesn’t diminish their significance. The chances of having a good season greatly increases or diminishes based on how well a team’s offensive line plays. Greg Eiland will have the task of holding down arguably the most important spot on the line, left tackle.

This will be Greg Eiland’s first full year as a starter, and he is taking over the spot that an NFL player held down last year. The good news for Mississippi State football fans is he was called upon quite a bit last season and performed admirably. Martinas Rankin, last year’s starter at left tackle, was out for much of the season due to injury. As a result, Greg Eiland played significant minutes in 2017 and should be more than ready for his role on the offensive line this season.

The 2018 offensive line for the Mississippi State football team should be rock solid. Slip ups at left tackle though could cause massive changes in the complexion of a game. It will be up to Greg Eiland to make sure those slip ups don’t happen.
