Roy Oswalt

Here’s another big time pitcher that is rather fond of the Mississippi State Bulldogs. But, unlike Papelbon, Roy Oswalt never pitched for the Mississippi State baseball team. He has said that he always wanted to, but never actually made it to Starkville to play college baseball.

Instead, the Houston Astros snagged him up.

Roy Oswalt was born in Weir, Mississippi, a town that currently has fewer than 500 people living in it and seems to continue shrinking population wise. But, Weir appears to only be about 40 minutes away from Starkville and that’s probably one huge reason as to why Oswalt loves MSU.

Being so close to Starkville as a baseball player growing up when MSU was reaching incredible heights, it’s certainly understandable as to why Oswalt would fall in love with the Bulldogs. Proximity certainly helps. Having that proximity to a school that cherishes baseball while being a baseball player certainly can’t hurt.

But, Oswalt’s love for MSU isn’t just relegated to the baseball diamond. He also seems to love MSU football.

Oswalt was an incredibly dominant pitcher for much of his career. He was the NL wins leader in 2004 and the the NL ERA leader in 2006. In addition to that, Oswalt was an All-Star three times, the most valuable player of the 2005 National League Championship Series.
