Jonathan Papelbon

Just about everyone knows that Jonathan Papelbon is an avid supporter of the Mississippi State Bulldogs. Almost everyone is familiar with how he’s got plenty of reasons to cheer the Bulldogs on in every sport possible.

For those that aren’t aware, Jonathan Papelbon is a former Major League Baseball pitcher. From 2005 to 2011, Papelbon was a staple with the Boston Red Sox. There, Jonathan Papelbon was a star, becoming a MLB All-Star four times. Later, Papelbon found himself with the Philadelphia Phillies and was an All-Star twice. He then last pitched for the Washington Nationals in 2016.

But before all of that, Jonathan Papelbon played for Mississippi State University. Papelbon pitched for the Bulldogs back in the early 2000s and helped Mississippi State make it to a couple of NCAA Regional appearances.

In 2014, in the midst of Mississippi State’s run to become No. 1 on the football field, Papelbon showed up as the College Gameday guest picker before No. 3 MSU’s game with the No. 2 ranked Auburn Tigers.

Alongside Lee Corso and the rest of ESPN’s College Gameday crew, Papelbon showed up in a Maroon and White suit. During the entire segment, he chewed on a cigar, bantered back and forth with the hosts, and made predictions along the way.

There’s no denying that Papelbon loves MSU.
