Mississippi State Football vs Ole Miss 2016

Mississippi State football didn’t really have much to gain from this game. The Bulldogs were fighting for bragging rights and trying to prevent the Rebels from winning three in a row in the Egg Bowl. Sure, there was the outside shot at making it to a bowl should things fall into place the right way, but MSU was guaranteed to end the 2016 season with a losing record.

However, there was the opportunity to make sure that Ole Miss didn’t get into a bowl game. Along with that, the Bulldogs had the opportunity to hand a loss to their rival that was the No. 11 ranked team coming into the season but was currently one loss away from being ineligible to make it to a bowl game.

In other words, MSU didn’t really have much to lose in the game, but Ole Miss certainly did. And, with some tremendous performances from Nick Fitzgerald and Aeris Williams ensured that the Bulldogs came out on top.

MSU won by a huge score of 55-20 in what was the most lopsided victory by the Bulldogs in Oxford throughout Egg Bowl history. The Bulldogs then made it to a bowl game while Ole Miss sat at home with a 5-7 record.
