Mississippi State Football vs Florida 2010

2010 was certainly a break out year for the Bulldogs and Dan Mullen. This was the year that MSU started to get some bigger wins against tougher opponents and crawl out of the basement in the SEC. The Bulldogs went 9-4 in Dan Mullen’s second year and grabbed a couple of wins over traditional powers to make themselves known.

This game against Florida is the perfect example of that.

Dan Mullen took the Mississippi State Bulldogs down to the Swamp in 2010 to face Urban Meyer and the Florida Gators. At the time, Mississippi State was 4-2. The Bulldogs had some wins over mediocre teams up to that point in that year and lost to Auburn and LSU. Florida, in that moment, was the 22nd ranked team in the nation and was also 4-2.

The biggest difference at that time was that Florida was coming off of two painful losses while Mississippi State was coming in with three double-digit victories.

And then Dan Mullen’s team outlasted the Florida Gators, giving him the victory over his former mentor, Urban Meyer.

The Bulldogs won the game thanks to a persistent running attack with Chris Relf and Vick Ballard as well as a defense that slowly smothered Florida’s offense. The Bulldogs won 10-7 and started to show that they were truly on the rise.
