Ethan Small Earned His Way To The Friday Starter Spot

There’s not an exact guarantee that Ethan Small will come back for another year of Mississippi State baseball. However, should he remain in Starkville for 2019, Small will have an opportunity to succeed as the Bulldogs’ unquestioned ace next season.

Ethan Small is a 6-3 and 208 pound left handed pitcher. He’s also had a hard time during parts of his Mississippi State career due to injury issues. Small missed out on all of the 2017 season due to injury.

But in 2018, Ethan Small was the best starting pitcher that the Bulldogs had throughout the year.

Small actually leads the Mississippi State Bulldogs with a 3.20 ERA and 122 strikeouts this season. Small was the most consistent pitcher throughout the season and earned his way to being the Friday night starter heading into the Nashville Super Regional against Vanderbilt.

With Konnor Pilkington almost certainly leaving for the pros, Ethan Small has a chance to come back and improve his own draft stock. In the process, he can become one of the best pitchers in the Southeastern Conference next year.
