Andy Cannizaro Lost The Perfect Opportunity To Contend For A National Title In His Second Season

Andy Cannizaro had, arguably, the best college baseball job possible. He was a young head coach with a team and a fanbase that seemed to truly love him and would defend him in any sort of circumstance.

In his first season as the head coach of the Bulldogs, Cannizaro took his team to a Super Regional and appeared ready to take his team to Omaha in his second year. It wasn’t going to be easy, the Bulldogs were replacing quite a bit in 2018, but the team was talented and Cannizaro was, in fact, proving himself to be an incredible head coach.

And then, seemingly out of nowhere, he lost all of those opportunities.

Cannizaro was out at Mississippi State after one complete season and then three games into the next season. College baseball’s new star head coach was gone and the future of Mississippi State baseball was questionable at best.

However, MSU still made it to Omaha. The Bulldogs still competed in the 2018 College World Series. Gary Henderson saved this season.
