The Mississippi State baseball team survived their first game. Now, they’ll face the North Carolina Tar Heels.

The Mississippi State baseball team is moving on in the 2018 College World Series.

The Bulldogs knocked down the Washington Huskies to advance on to their next game in Omaha. Mississippi State baseball claimed that win in walk-off fashion thanks to Luke Alexander’s perfectly timed hit.

Similarly, the North Carolina Tar Heels also advanced on to their next game. North Carolina beat the Oregon State Beavers after jumping out to a solid early lead and then holding on to it throughout the game.

However, in these games, the Mississippi State baseball team was able to keep its relief pitchers rested whereas North Carolina used  several key arms from its bullpen. Given that the two teams got a day to rest, this may not have a meaningful impact. But, it’s still something that should be noted and paid attention to.

The Mississippi State Bulldogs will take on the North Carolina Tar Heels on Monday evening. MSU is in pretty good position to continue advancing given how this postseason has gone thus far. If the Bulldogs can grab a win here, that’ll set them up for a great shot to compete in the national championship series.

With the first round of the College World Series being a double elimination bracket, Mississippi State and North Carolina both got much needed wins to open this event up on Saturday.

Whoever wins this next game is in prime position for the rest of the tournament. Why? Well, it means avoiding the elimination games. Doing that keeps your bullpen fresh and prevents burning through pitchers even further.
