The Mississippi State baseball team is getting some very interesting support in the 2018 College World Series
Mississippi State baseball has truly embraced the Rally Banana. There’s banana shirts, banana cowbells, banana hats, and just a whole bunch of potassium rich yellow fruits being showcased on social media.
Jordan Westburg is the man to blame, or thank, depending on how much you like the yellow fruit. But, because Westburg grabbed a banana in Mississippi State baseball’s game against the Oklahoma Sooners, bananas have become a cultural craze with Mississippi State baseball.
Now, several big name banana companies have joined in on the fun. Dole recently openly picked the Mississippi State Bulldogs to support in Omaha.
That’s right, Dole is backing the Mississippi State baseball team in the 2018 College World Series.
However, Dole isn’t alone in this. They’re not the only ones with banana based rooting interest. Chiquita also showed their support for the Rally Banana earlier this week on twitter.
Now, it’s not really much of a surprise that Dole and Chiquita would throw their names out here with this. It’s free publicity and it’s a whole bunch of social media based fun in the form of fruit shenanigans.
It also helps that this Mississippi State baseball team is a great feel good story. The Bulldogs haven’t had the easiest season in 2018. Still, they’re in Omaha after losing their head coach at the start of the season.

In the context of college baseball, it’s hard to say that Mississippi State is ever a “Cinderella story.” The Bulldogs are consistently one of college baseball’s best and have been in the College World Series 9 times before this year. But, this is a fun loving team that is a blast to watch. And now, MSU has plenty of banana loving friends in high places.
