Mississippi State baseball comes out on top of the 2018 Nashville Super Regional
The Mississippi State baseball team is going to the 2018 College World Series! Mississippi State takes down the Vanderbilt Commodores on their own field in extra innings in a back and forth affair that challenged both teams. The Bulldogs came out on top 10-6 after an incredibly tough game and now MSU moves on!
The Mississippi State baseball team had to fight against the Commodores. The Bulldogs weren’t given an easy game by any means. Like most of the series, anytime that Mississippi State pulled away, Vanderbilt would come right back in and tie things up.
The Bulldogs jumped ahead early on the Commodores, taking a 2-0 lead in the 3rd inning. But Vandy wouldn’t let that lead hold. In the bottom half of that same inning, Vanderbilt added a run of their own, cutting it to 2-1. And then in the bottom of the 4th, Vandy took a 3-2 lead.
Mississippi State would go on to tie things again in the top of the 6th inning and then push ahead by putting three runs across the plate in the 9th. But, a 6-3 lead would not be enough for the Mississippi Stat baseball team to walk away with the win.
No, Vandy tied the game once more and pushed the game into extra innings.
Things went quiet for a few innings. But, in the top of the 11th, the scoreboard lit up once more! Tanner Allen doubled to get Mississippi State a go ahead run with a 7-6 score. After an intentional walk to Hunter Stovall to load the bases, things got exciting. Vandy issued a bases loaded walk and then let Luke Alexander single into right field to put a couple more runs on.
Thus, MSU won 10-6.
