The Mississippi State baseball team must win another elimination game this season

MSU is in an elimination game. The Bulldogs must win if they want to keep playing. But, this really isn’t new territory for the Mississippi State baseball team. The only thing new about this is the way that the Bulldogs got here. In fact, the Mississippi State baseball team has been here for most of the postseason.

Elimination games are familiar territory for the Mississippi State baseball team. The Bulldogs have been here plenty of times before.

Last night, the Mississippi State Bulldogs tried to eliminate the Vanderbilt Commodores but just couldn’t. MSU fell short and Vanderbilt won on a walk-off home run. The team that has made its mark this year by beating others on walk-off home runs finally experienced the other side of it.

It doesn’t really feel that good.

And now, because of that, the Mississippi State Bulldogs can’t afford to lose. If they do, then this season is over. Everything is done. However, if State can find a way to win tonight, then they’ll advance on. The Bulldogs will then eliminate Vanderbilt and move on toward the 2018 College World Series.

Mississippi State will play Vanderbilt one more time tonight and there’s two possible outcomes. One, a win, and Mississippi State gets that trip to Omaha. Two, a loss, and Mississippi State must take the trip back to Starkville.

What Gary Henderson and the Bulldogs have accomplished this year shouldn’t go unnoticed. This is a team that was left for dead halfway through the season and then found a way to turn it all around and make it here, game three of a Super Regional.

Mississippi State won four consecutive games in the Tallahassee Regional, all of which were elimination games. The Mississippi State baseball team just needs to claim one more. The Bulldogs play tonight at 5:00 pm central time.
