Jake Mangum will officially be back with Mississippi State baseball for his senior season

Jake Mangum isn’t leaving Starkville just yet. The Mississippi State baseball team are getting one more season of Mangum as the junior announced his intentions to return to the Bulldogs for his senior season.

Earlier today, Mangum was drafted in the 2018 Major League Baseball draft. The New York Mets selected Mangum, traditionally a centerfielder, as a left handed pitcher. With the 950th pick in the 32nd round of the MLB Draft, the Mets chose to pick Mangum. However, Jake Mangum has no intentions of playing in the Mets organization.

At least not yet.

Instead, Jake Mangum is coming back to Starkville. The Mississippi State Bulldogs will get a full four-year career out of their star centerfielder. Mangum has been amazing for MSU since he arrived in Starkville and he wants one more year of college baseball.

Jake Mangum, in 2018, is the leading hitter for the Bulldogs. In 260 at bats, Mangum has a total of 92 hits. 20 of those hits are doubles, 3 are triples, and 3 are home runs. Jake Mangum has been a constant hitting threat all year and has a .354 batting average this season.

The Mississippi State baseball team is certainly likely to get several other players announce that they are coming back soon. But this first announcement is incredible.

Mangum has often been the heart and soul of the Bulldogs.

As he’s gone, so has the team.
