Mississippi State baseball’s JP France was picked up by the World Series Champs in the 14th round

The Mississippi State baseball team is sending JP France on to the professional baseball scene. The World Series Champs, the Houston Astros, selected Mississippi State’s JP France to come join their organization with the 432nd pick in the 14th round of the 2018 Major League Baseball Draft.

France arrived on Mississippi State’s campus as a pitcher transferring in to the Maroon and White. He moved to Starkville after playing the bulk of his career at Tulane University. While at Tulane, France appeared in a total of 48 games. Through those 48 games, 31 of them were starts. France held a 13-12 record and a 4.01 ERA in his Tulane career.

During the 2018 season, JP France has proven to be quite the pitcher and one the the Mississippi State baseball team has certainly needed. France has functioned primarily as a reliever coming out of the bullpen. He’s made 23 appearances and has a 3.41 ERA. This season, France has struck out 62 batters in 58 innings pitched.

He’s only made two starts this season, but his most recent performance won the Tallahassee Regional for the Bulldogs. The first start that JP France made with Mississippi State came against Jackson State, when the Bulldogs hit the road early in the season. His second start was against the Oklahoma Sooners and is one where France absolutely dealt, keeping the Sooners at bay and away from home plate.
