Mississippi State baseball has to clear the Florida State Seminoles to play in a Super Regional this year

If the Mississippi State baseball team hopes to clear the Tallahassee Regional in the NCAA Tournament, the Bulldogs will definitely have to be better than the Florida State Seminoles this weekend. That’s a tough thing to ask of Mississippi State. The Bulldogs have been up and down all year while Florida State has been consistent and dominant at home.

But, MSU is 9-1 against the No. 1 seed, the No. 4 seed, and the No. 5 seed this year. Mississippi State definitely has a chance. The Bulldogs will just need to be careful and take care of business when given that opportunity.

Part of that means that the Mississippi State baseball team will have to keep an eye on these three Florida State players.

Drew Parrish

Drew Parrish is by far the best pitcher for the Florida State Seminoles in 2018. He currently holds a perfect 5-0 record, is tied for the most starts with 15 this season, and has thrown a complete game this season.

Right now, Parrish has thrown 98.1 innings through the season, has struck out 121 opposing hitters, and has a 2.47 ERA. Opponents are only batting .197 against him. There’s a strong argument to be made that Parrish might be the best pitcher in the entire 2018 Tallahassee Regional.

Jackson Lueck

Jackson Lueck is far from being the most reliable hitter for the Florida State Seminoles. His batting average comes in as FSU’s 6th best on their roster. But that doesn’t mean that Lueck isn’t still incredibly productive whenever he steps up to the plate.

This season, Jackson Lueck has a batting average .253. But, of his 56 hits in 221 at bats, 15 of them are home runs. Lueck is second on his team with 45 RBIs this season. He’s a really good hitter and one that the pitchers on the Mississippi State baseball team need to be aware of.

Cal Raleigh

Cal Raleigh is another hitter that Mississippi State needs to keep an eye on. With his stats, he’s certainly not someone that anyone is going to overlook. Raleigh is Florida State’s leader in batting average, total hits, slugging percentage, and RBIs. So far this season, Raleigh has a .330 batting average, 73 total hits, a slugging percentage of .593 percent, and has 54 RBIs.

The Mississippi State baseball team is hoping to make a run to Omaha. To do that, the Bulldogs need to make it through a Super Regional. To even get to a Super Regional, Mississippi State will more than likely have to surpass Florida State in their home stadium. That won’t be easily accomplished.
