The Samford Bulldogs will join the Mississippi State baseball team as the No. 4 seed in the Tallahassee Regional this weekend

Mississippi State baseball is heading down to the Tallahassee Regional where they’ll be greeted by a few different challenges. One team that the Mississippi State Bulldogs could certainly meet up with is the Samford Bulldogs. As many may remember, MSU and Samford have gone through this before.

Last time the Mississippi State Bulldogs met with Samford in Tallahassee, things didn’t go so well for the Bulldogs in Maroon and White. In the first round of the regional, Samford shut out Mississippi State 5-0 and sent MSU into a couple of elimination games. After FSU beat UAB, the Seminoles took on Samford, who they beat. Then, MSU took care of business against UAB which set the stage for a rematch between Mississippi State and Samford.

The second game between the two teams was much closer than the first, but it still didn’t matter. Mississippi State couldn’t keep up and was eliminated by the Samford Bulldogs after dropping the game by a score of 3-2.

Now, the two teams are set to meet again in Tallahassee. Mississippi State is planning on this round being a bit different.

Samford arrives in the Tallahassee Regional with a 36-24 overall record and a 16-8 conference record. At the moment, Samford is riding a four game winning streak after sweeping through the SoCon tournament and claiming the championship.

This isn’t the only Samford streak that is noteworthy. Earlier this year, the Bulldogs won 13 games in a row. Then, they followed that up by losing 7 straight games.

Mississippi State can’t afford to get off to a slow start this time in Tallahassee. The Bulldogs must also be ready to take on Samford if the matchup happens. MSU’s first game is against Oklahoma. If MSU wins there and FSU defeats Samford, the two teams of Bulldogs may never meet.
