If Someone Doesn’t Step Up At Wide Receiver, Can Mississippi State’s Tight Ends Produce At A High Level?

Farrod Green and Justin Johnson are two solid tight ends that can be used in blocking and receiving. And somehow, Dan Mullen often appeared to forget that either existed whenever the Bulldogs struggled to create a solid passing game.

It’s doubtful that Joe Moorhead will make that same mistake.

Mike Gesicki is a name that many Mississippi State fans may not be overly familiar with. However, he’s one that plenty of Penn State fans were certainly enamored with. Gesicki, for the past couple of seasons, has been an incredibly productive tight end for the Penn State Nittany Lions. He was just taken by the Miami Dolphins in the second round of the draft and is looking to get on the field as soon as possible.

One reason that he is ready for that is how Joe Moorhead incorporated Gesicki into the offense in multiple ways. In the past two seasons at Penn State, Gesicki has caught 105 passes for 1,242 yards and 14 touchdowns.

If Moorhead can’t get enough production out of the Bulldogs’ receivers, will a tight end emerge as a dangerous pass catching weapon for MSU? Even if the receivers do step up, will Joe Moorhead’s innovative mind find ways to make these tight ends incredibly productive?
