Mississippi State baseball eliminated in the first round of the SEC Tournament

The Mississippi State baseball team wasn’t playing in Hoover for very long. The Bulldogs are returning home after falling to the LSU Tigers in the first round of the SEC Tournament by a score of 8-5.

Mississippi State and LSU battled back and forth through the evening after the game was pushed back from the afternoon. An early morning rain delay moving another game and Auburn and Kentucky going into extra innings delayed the Bulldogs and Tigers from playing a bit.

But, once the game got started, the two teams made sure that there was plenty of excitement going on. LSU and MSU combined for 26 hits in the game.

The Mississippi State baseball team got the scoring going, getting on the board first in the top of the 3rd inning.

Justin Foscue hit a two RBI double to push the Bulldogs ahead of LSU 2-0. Then, in the 4th inning, Mississippi State extended the lead out to 3-0 after Tanner Allen’s sacrifice fly that scored Josh Hatcher.

But, LSU came back.

In the bottom of the 5th inning, LSU put two runs up on the board to trim the lead to 3-2. Mississippi State extended things back out to 4-2 in the top of the 6th, but that wouldn’t be enough.

In the bottom half of the 6th inning, the Tigers tied things up at 4-4. From there, LSU added two runs onto that an inning later, putting LSU ahead 6-4. MSU cut that back down to 6-5, but two more runs from the Tigers gave LSU an insurmountable 8-5 lead.

Now, the Bulldogs are coming home. The Mississippi State baseball team will wait to find out where it’s going to play in the NCAA Tournament. On the bright side, MSU didn’t really need a win to get in the postseason.
