Jake Mangum lifted the Mississippi State baseball team up and over Florida with this triple
The Mississippi State baseball team needed a strong comeback attempt to take down the top ranked Florida team last night. And, well, the Bulldogs definitely came through with that comeback bid.
In the bottom of the 7th inning, Elijah MacNamee and Hunter Stovall got the comeback started. After Stovall’s single, MacNamee hit a two-run shot over the fence to cut the Florida lead down to one run.
Then, in the bottom of the 8th inning, Mississippi State’s offense exploded. The Bulldogs came out and put four runs up on the board to get the lead and extend it out to 6-3.
The first two runs in the 8th inning came courtesy of Jake Mangum’s bat.
Marshall Gilbert earned a walk to start the inning off. Then, the Bulldogs brought in Jordan Anderson to pinch run for Gilbert. Following that, Jordan Westburg stepped up to the plate and attempted to move Anderson ahead with a sac bunt.
The bunt worked and Anderson found his way to second base. Thankfully for the Bulldogs, Florida’s catcher committed an error and Jordan Westburg was also able to get on base before Jake Mangum got ready to bat.
And, what followed was some late inning magic from Jake Mangum to give the Bulldogs the lead.
Jake Mangum, with two runners on and no outs, hit a two RBI triple, scoring both Jordan Anderson and Jordan Westburg. The hit put Mississippi State ahead of the top ranked Florida Gators and gave the Bulldogs great positioning in the game.
