Can Nick Fitzgerald win the Heisman Trophy in 2018?
Earlier this week, Chase Goodbread of NFL.com listed 18 possible Heisman Trophy candidates for the 2018 college football season. Nick Fitzgerald, the senior starting quarterback for the Mississippi State football team, made it onto that list.
Granted, he was sitting all the way at 17 on said list, but that doesn’t matter. He still made it onto the list.
Right now, it looks like Fitzgerald is a dark horse Hesiman candidate. More than likely, Goodbread isn’t the only one that’ll consider him in this role.
It’s probable, given Fitzgerald’s 6-5 and 230 pound frame, along with his rare athleticism and strong arm, that someone else will start considering him for the Heisman going into next year.
Earlier this offseason, a few months back when Joe Moorhead arrived, he met with his senior quarterbacks. Reportedly, in that meeting, Moorhead told Fitzgerald that he intended prepare Fitz to go on and win the Heisman in 2018.
And, in an offense like Joe Moorhead’s, Nick Fitzgerald will almost certainly be put in plenty of positions to play at a high level and succeed. He’ll have opportunities to get incredible stats and the Bulldogs should win quite a few games.
But, what would Fitzgerald really need to do this season to be a realistic candidate for the Heisman Trophy?
