Mississippi State and Texas A&M are mistaken for one another yet again

Mississippi State is now a national brand of sorts. Or, depending on who you ask down in the Lone Star State, Mississippi State is now an international brand of sorts. Why do I make that claim? Well, Mississippi State pennants are being sold at a Houston, Texas area Academy Sports + Outdoors store.

The reason why this is happening? It isn’t totally clear. But, if I had to guess, it has something to do with someone mistaking MSU for A&M.

Whether the mistake is on Academy’s end or on Rico Industries Incorporated, the brand responsible for making the pennants, I have no clue. Somehow, along the way, these Mississippi State pennants were mistaken for Texas A&M pennants.

An because of that, the Bulldogs are getting exposure in an area they don’t normally get much. That’s partially because of geography and how far Texas is from Mississippi. It’s also because of how many schools are in Texas.

On Saturday evening, after celebrating a family friend graduating college, my fiancée and I made our way to Academy to pick up a new shirt. Given that this is the Houston metropolitan area, I am by no means expecting to stumble upon anything MSU related aside from the decals on my car.

Lo and behold, we stumbled upon something Mississippi State related.

Finding Mississippi State gear outside of Mississippi is always fun. When it happens in a state where the predominant logo attached to anything maroon isn’t MSU’s, it’s even better.

Regardless of whose to blame here, the Academy location down in Sugar Land, Texas has them. So, if you’re in the Houston area and want to pick up a MSU pennant, get over to Sugar Land, Texas.
