Mississippi State women’s tennis team comes from behind and beats William & Mary to advance in the NCAA Tournament

The Mississippi State women’s tennis team is moving on! After claiming their first round victory to get the NCAA Tournament started, MSU is advancing toward the second round of the NCAA Tournament!

After earning their fourth consecutive bid to get into the NCAA Tournament this season, the Mississippi State women’s tennis team hiked on up to Chapel Hill, North Carolina. There, the 31st ranked Bulldogs were seeded against the 46th ranked William & Mary Tribe.

In the matchup between the two teams, Mississippi State came out on top. But, it wasn’t always a clear cut advantage for the Bulldogs. William & Mary took an early lead after playing well in the doubles round.

It was then that MSU fell behind.

But the Bulldogs weren’t down for long. Heading into the singles matches, Mississippi State was able to come back and surge ahead. The Tribe took every single doubles match, but the singles matches were where MSU made its mark.

The Bulldogs held a 4-1 advantage over William & Mary in the singles matches and that is what the difference was today.

Now, Mississippi State is moving on in the NCAA tournament. The Bulldogs will face the winner of the North Carolina and Morgan State matchup. North Carolina is the host of the matches, and arguably the best team here, so it shouldn’t be a surprise if the Tar Heels come out on top.
