Houston Texans Draft Mississippi State Football Tight End Jordan Thomas in NFL Draft
By Ethan Lee
Jordan Thomas, like Martinas Rankin, is headed to Houston
The Houston Texans like drafting Mississippi State Bulldogs, apparently. Jordan Thomas, a tight end for the Mississippi State football team, will be headed down to Houston as he was drafted by the Texans in the 6th round of the NFL Draft today!
Thomas arrived in Starkville as the 9th best junior college recruit in the state of Mississippi. He showed up at 6-5 and 295 pounds, but dropped down to about 280, according to the MSU roster. Now, the giant tight end is looking to make an impact with the Texans.
In his two years playing for Mississippi State football, Thomas caught 31 receptions for 311 yards and four touchdowns. But, the bulk of that came this past season. In his senior year, Jordan Thomas had 22 receptions for 263 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Arguably, Dan Mullen did not use the large pass catching target enough in his two seasons in Starkville. But, what’s done is done. Jordan Thomas didn’t have the most amazing stats in the draft, but his large frame and athleticism attracted enough attention and the Texans, needing some solid tight ends, picked him up.
Now, both he and Martinas Rankin, will be coming down to Houston to play in the National Football League. Rankin was drafted last night in the 3rd round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Assuming the duo both make it onto the final roster, they’ll have a chance to play together as they did in college.
And, as I wrote last night, welcome to Houston, Jordan Thomas! Hopefully you, and Martinas Rankin, can represent Mississippi State University for the Houston Texans for years to come in the NFL.
