Mississippi State Football Will Be Without Several Star Players In the Maroon and White Game

If you were hoping to see Nick Fitzgerald, Jeffery Simmons, or several other key players in tomorrow’s Maroon and White game, you’re going to be a bit disappointed. Earlier today, the Mississippi State football team released the rosters for the Maroon and White game. And, well, the Bulldogs will be resting 5 players on Saturday.

More than likely, you were hoping to see three or four of those names play. But, really, it is for the best that these guys take a day off.

Because of the injury that Nick Fitzgerald suffered in the Egg Bowl last November, he’s still not at 100 percent. As such, it’s far more important that Nick get plenty of rest and can heal up as quickly as possible. The Maroon and White game, like most spring games, isn’t the most important thing ever for veteran players.

Letting Fitz rest and Keytaon Thompson gain experience is the best course of action here.

Similarly, Jeffery Simmons will be sitting out on the sidelines on Saturday afternoon. Last season, Simmons injured his shoulder. It’s actually a somewhat significant injury and one that would inhibit just how well he could play. And so, the All-SEC First team player will rest as well.

Mississippi State football will also be without the services of wide receivers Stephen Guidry and Keith Mixon as well as redshirt freshman tight end Powers Warren.

But, the Bulldogs should be fine during the Maroon and White game. Ultimately, it is a scrimmage in which the Mississippi State football team plays itself. It’s smart for the Bulldogs to rest their star players and keep them healthy for the real games this fall.
