2009

2009 was the start of the Dan Mullen era. Everything that was to come over the next several years began during the 2009 Mississippi State football Maroon and White game.

Coming out of the Sylvester Croom era was difficult for the university and the fans of the football program. The Croom era wasn’t enjoyable by any stretch of the imagination. But there were plenty of reasons to be excited by what the future might hold given who the Bulldogs just hired.

Dan Mullen was one of the best offensive minds in college football. He helped Tim Tebow and Urban Meyer win at the highest level in Gainesville, Florida and was now looking to build a legacy of his own. So, he became a head coach. He took on the task of turning Mississippi State football around and rebuilding it from the ground up.

While the game itself isn’t all that notable, it was the beginning of a phenomenal period of MSU football. It should be recognized for that.

Now we’re moving on to the second most important spring game.
