The 2017 Maroon and White game comes in at the fifth spot on this list. Although the 2016 season was horrible, the Mississippi State football was actually carrying some momentum over from the way the season ended.

Nick Fitzgerald had a spectacular year and expectations for him to continue to develop were pretty high. Add in that the Bulldogs found their running back in Aeris Williams along with the fact that MSU had several offensive linemen returning and the rushing attack was poised to be dangerous in the 2017 season.

But it wasn’t just the offense that excited people. The potential of the defense with Todd Grantham at the helm caused several fans to jump up and down with joy. Mississippi State was gearing up a dangerous defensive line that could run through many SEC offensive fronts and Peter Sirmon was out of town.

And, as it turns out, the defense put on a solid performance in the spring game.

Folks were excited about what the 2017 season could hold. And, well, the Bulldogs went 9-4 in the fall that followed. That’s not bad at all.
