Mississippi State Football: Expect Nick Fitzgerald To Set MSU Records In 2018
By Ethan Lee
Nick Fitzgerald Had 3798 Total Yards In A Single Season In 2016
2016 was a great year for Nick Fitzgerald when it comes to stats. Largely because the defense had such issues and allowed for opposing offenses to score, Fitzgerald and the offense found themselves on the field so frequently.
But, now that Fitz has a few more years and offseasons of experience and development, it’s possible that he can make a run at this record.
Dak Prescott set this one, to nobody’s surprise. In 2014, Dak totaled 4435 yards on offense. Then, in 2015, Dak came just shy of his record with 4381. Nick Fitzgerald will have a solid chance to claim this record in 2018.
Joe Moorhead’s development of Penn State quarterback Trace McSorely is a pretty good reason to feel confident about this one. McSorely in 2016 had 3979 yards. Then, in 2017, McSorely had 4061 yards. If Moorhead can get similar production out of Nick Fitzgerald this year, Fitz will have a decent chance to make a run at this record.
