Mississippi State Baseball Needed These Huge Diving Plays from Jake Mangum and Hunter Stovall

Right now, Mississippi State baseball is in the midst of game one against their rival, the Ole Miss Rebels. Despite the fact that Ole Miss came to Starkville, Mississippi as the 3rd ranked team in the nation, MSU is certainly thumping them right now.

This is a series that Mississippi State needs to win. If the Bulldogs can hold onto their huge lead in game one, they’ll have plenty of momentum in game two.

That beatdown isn’t solely the result of pitching or hitting. It isn’t relegated to home runs and strikeouts. Mississippi State is also making huge plays on the field to keep the Rebels off the scoreboard today.

Both of the following plays should make it onto Sports Center’s Top 10 plays.

In the top of the fourth inning with one out, Mississippi State’s Hunter Stovall made magic happen. The Bulldogs held a 10-2 lead at the time. Stovall’s diving catch prevented Ole Miss from getting a baserunner on.

Then, later in the game, Jake Mangum put on a display of his own. In the top of the 6th with a runner on and 2 outs, Mangum ended the inning with a fantastic diving play in center field.

Mississippi State baseball needs this win. The Bulldogs need any and every victory that they can get, especially in Southeastern Conference games. Beating Ole Miss would be even sweeter. MSU needs to hold onto this lead. If the Bulldogs keep making these big plays and can prevent runs from moving across the plate, they’ll be in a great position to claim the win.
