No. 22 Mississippi State Softball Set to Host 10th Ranked Aggies

Another weekend, another ranked series matchup for Mississippi State softball. This weekend, the MSU Bulldogs will host the 10th ranked Aggie softball team of Texas A&M University. That means State has yet another tough test on their hands.

Mississippi State softball is 28-9 this season, but the Bulldogs have lost 3 games in a row, all of which were Southeastern Conference games. As such, MSU is now 3-6 in SEC play. Texas A&M is 32-8 this year and holds a 5-4 conference record. The Aggies lost their last time out when they played South Carolina.

Mississippi State and Texas A&M are both phenomenal when playing at home as the Bulldogs are 20-3 at Nusz Field while the Aggies are 29-3 in College Station. However, A&M is currently winless in away games. Texas A&M is 0-3 on the road as they were crushed in a sweep in Gainesville, Florida.

The Aggies are a great all around team, just like MSU. Statistically, though, Mississippi State registers as a better team. The Bulldogs have a team ERA of 1.65, 5th best in the SEC. A&M’s staff comes in a bit lower at 2.02. MSU’s pitchers have struck out 283 batters this season. A&M’s only 217 in 3 more games.

The Bulldogs are also better than Texas A&M at the plate. Mississippi State has a .311 batting average, slightly edging out A&M’s .308. MSU has 35 home runs, A&M has 33 despite playing 3 more games.

Theoretically, this is a series that Mississippi State should win. It won’t be easy, but MSU has everything that they need to claim this matchup. Vann Stuedeman and the Bulldogs will need to show up better than they did last week, but they can win this weekend.
