Joe Moorhead Wants Mississippi State Football Fans To Show Up In Record Numbers At The Spring Game

Back in the spring of 2011, Mississippi State football fans were ecstatic about the state of the program. Rightfully so. The Bulldogs were fresh off of a 9-4 season that saw their team returning several key pieces for the 2011 campaign. A younger Dan Mullen was entering into his third season in Starkville, Mississippi and everything seemed to be on the up and up.

As such, Mississippi State set an attendance record at the annual Maroon and White game. A reported 36,357 fans appeared at Davis Wade Stadium to watch the Bulldogs compete openly in front of everybody. That set a record for MSU spring games.

The 2011 season didn’t go as well as most Mississippi State fans hoped, but the Bulldogs ended up 7-6, beat their rival, and won a bowl game. All in all, not a bad year.

Now, MSU is entering into a new era. Joe Moorhead has taken the reigns of the Bulldogs’ football team. He’s doing everything he can to set what he refers to as a “championship standard” for the Mississippi State football team.

Moorhead wants MSU to be great, not just good. And so, he’s issued out a challenge for the Bulldog faithful. Mississippi State’s newest head coach wants MSU fans to set a new attendance record at the Mississippi State Maroon and White game.

In an emoji laden tweet, Moorhead says it himself:

There’s no reason why Mississippi State fans can’t do this. The game will happen on April 21st during Super Bulldog Weekend. The athletic department administration spaces everything out that day to encourage fans to attend everything that they possibly can.

MSU’s softball team will play Florida at 1:00. The baseball team will play Arkansas at 6:00. In between is the Maroon and White game. And Joe Moorhead is hoping to see at least 36,358 Mississippi State fans there.
