Mississippi State Basketball Beat Louisville in Overtime, but MSU Needed Roshunda Johnson to Get Them There
In tonight’s Final Four matchups, Mississippi State basketball came out triumphant against Louisville. But, for a while, it seemed certain that the Bulldogs would fall to the Louisville Cardinals.
Mississippi State trailed throughout the second half and the Bulldogs could not hit a shot from deep to save their lives. Mississippi State was a dreadful 2 for 12 when it came to three pointers through the game.
Louisville’s defense had locked Mississippi State down all night. The Bulldogs’ shooters were struggling to get separation and to create offensive opportunities. Mississippi State had a grand total of 9 assists through the game and the offense simply wasn’t the same.
But, when the Bulldogs needed a heroic moment late in the game, Roshunda Johnson stepped up. The senior, and former Oklahoma State transfer, was on the court late as Mississippi State was trailing with mere seconds to go. Prior to this shot, Johnson was 0 for 2 in three point attempts.
And then, with seconds draining off the clock, Johnson drained a shot that would tie the game up.
Roshunda Johnson saved the Bulldogs’ season in that moment. This shot helped Mississippi State get to overtime, where MSU wore the Louisville Cardinals down. The Bulldogs won their Final Four matchup against Louisville by 10 points. And now, MSU is headed back to the National Championship game.
But Mississippi State wouldn’t be in this position had Johnson not drained this shot. This moment, this magic, in March will allow Mississippi State to play for a national title on Easter Sunday. MSU will have a chance to win it all.
