Watch out for These Three when Mississippi State Basketball Plays Louisville

The Louisville Cardinals are fielding an excellent women’s basketball team this year. That is clearly evidenced by the fact that they are facing Mississippi State basketball in the Final Four. MSU has a pretty good team too, for what that’s worth. It’s also one of the best in the nation, for what that’s worth.

But, right now, let’s start to examine how Louisville works and which players Mississippi State should really keep an eye on in tonight’s game.

Asia Durr, Louisville’s Leading Scorer

Louisville has relied pretty heavily on Asia Durr this season. Durr has been incredibly solid when it comes to scoring, putting up 18.7 points per game. She’s done that while shooting very efficiently and accurately too.

Durr has hit 44.6% of all of her field goal attempts this season. When it comes to hitting shots from deep, she nails 41.8% of them. She’s dangerous from all over the court. On the rebounding front, Durr grabs 3.1 boards per game. She’ll dish out 2.3 assists per game as well.

Myisha Hines-Allen

Myisha Hines-Allen makes her presence known in just about every game that she competes in. She’s so incredibly close to averaging a double-double through the year as she is scoring 14.1 points per game and grabbing 9.7 rebounds per game.

That’s the second most points per game and the most rebounds per game for the Cardinals this season. Teaira McCowan holds a significant height advantage and will certainly put that to use, but that doesn’t mean that MSU will be able to lock down Hines-Allen with ease.

Sam Fuehring

Sam Fuehring stands at 6-3 and adds to the Louisville Cardinals’ depth. She’s been a solid starter all year long and is averaging 10.1 points per game and 5.4 rebounds per game, good for third on her team and second for the Cardinals respectively.

Fuehring’s stats don’t jump out at you immediately, but she’s a very efficient shooter with a field goal percentage of 58.4%. That accuracy might be an issue for MSU if the Bulldogs can’t lock her down reliably.

Next: Mississippi State Has No Room for Error Against Louisville

Mississippi State has its work cut out for it. The Bulldogs will need to compete and contend well to move past a deep Cardinals team. MSU will need to clearly watch out for these three, but Louisville has multiple scoring options beyond these three, and a fairly deep bench, to turn to.
