Mississippi State Basketball: Bulldogs Beat UCLA, Advance to Final Four

Mississippi State Basketball Has Won the Kansas City Regional and is Moving on to the Final Four for Second Straight Year

It’s happening again! Mississippi State Basketball is moving on to the Final Four for the second straight year! The Bulldogs beat the UCLA Bruins 89-73. After wining the Kansas City Regional, Mississippi State will get to play for a shot at a national title appearance.

Mississippi State led the Bruins throughout most of the game and even built up a sizable lead, but UCLA would not let MSU run away until late in the fourth quarter.

In the first quarter, Mississippi State and UCLA went back and forth, and the Bulldogs built a 23-17 lead by the end of it. In the second, MSU forced the game to be wide open. Mississippi State led 42-26 after the Bulldogs outscored the Bruins 19-9 in the second quarter.

UCLA Pushed Back in the Second Half

UCLA fought back in the second half, outscoring Mississippi State 24-21 in the third and trimming MSU’s lead 63-50. The Bruins continued to work their way at that lead and cut it down to 6 in the final quarter, but MSU pushed back on the Bruins. And as such, Mississippi State won 89-13.

In the game, Victoria Vivians led the Bulldogs in scoring with 24 points. But, Teaira McCowan wasn’t far behind with her 23 points. And on top of that, McCowan had another 20-20 game with her 21 rebounds, which led all players in the game by a mile.

Morgan William and Roshunda Johnson both made their way into double digits scoring as well with 17 and 12 points respectively. Close behind came Blair Schaefer with 9 points. All 9 of which came off of her perfect 3 for 3 from behind the three point line.

And now, Mississippi State is moving on. The Bulldogs will play in the Final Four for the second consecutive year. Next up for Mississippi State basketball is a trip to Columbus, Ohio. Mississippi State isn’t done just yet and the Bulldogs surely want another shot at a championship.
