Central Arkansas Softball Has Gone Out of Their Way to Support Mississippi State Softball Freshman Alex Wilcox

When Mississippi State Softball plays midweek games, the Bulldogs don a special uniform. From the hats and ribbons and helmets on their heads down to the socks on their feet, Mississippi State softball has teal on their uniforms.

Why?

To support everyone battling ovarian cancer, including one of their own. Freshman Alex Wilcox was diagnosed with the disease back in 2015 while she was in high school. And when Mississippi State welcomed her into the Bulldog family, they began supporting her with a campaign.

Throughout the year, other teams have heard about the No One Fights Alone campaign and have stepped up to raise awareness and to emotionally support both Wilcox and everyone else fighting the disease along with her. But Central Arkansas has done much, much more.

When the Bears came to town, they themselves wore special uniforms. But instead of just teal accents on the uniforms, each and everyone from the University of Central Arkansas had the last name of Wilcox on their uniforms.

On top of that, the uniforms are being auctioned off and will help pay for Alex Wilcox’s medical bills.

Coach David Kuhn and the entirety of the Central Arkansas Bears’ softball team came to Starkville and embraced Alex Wilcox, took up her cause, and are taking care of her as if she was one of their own.

This is beyond your average, run of the mill showing of good sportsmanship. This is an incredible gesture and step towards helping those in need, even when they’re complete strangers. It’s a showing of compassion that feels all too rare these days.

And so, I’m rooting for the University of Central Arkansas in all of their athletic endeavors from here on out. I would encourage you to do the same. And if you are looking to buy a jersey for your new favorite team, I know of a certain one that you might like.
